For the third year in a row, our Scout section participated in the Greater Western Sydney Jamborette over the King's Birthday long weekend.  Our two patrols had a brilliant time - completing all 28 available bases over the three day camp due to a friendly competition to see who could complete the most activities!

GWS Jamborette is a fantastically run event and gives Scouts a taste of what life will be like if they attend the Australian Jamboree.  Scouts set up their campsite on the first day, with campsites encouraged to mimic Jamboree campsites in layout and function.  In patrols of around six Scouts, youth members attend bases that are run by Leaders and Venturers which challenge and engage them while also encouraging leadership and teamwork.  The patrols are responsible for organising their days and venture out to the activities without an adult tagging along, as well as being responsible for cooking meals for their whole unit, cleaning up and being largely independent.  At night there is a range of entertainment on offer - this year we had a disco, movie and talent show

Our 1st St Andrews Scouts had a fabulous time. There were loads of laughs around the campfire (and s'mores of course), funny stories, dad jokes and roughly a million games of Uno during downtime and fully engaging with the bases at other times.  I know many core memories were formed and we can't wait to do it all again next year!
